This guide helps installers properly enter location information in the Location Type dropdown and Location Number/Description field to ensure accurate tracking and easy future location of sensors and gateways.

Why This Matters

  • Future Maintenance: Helps technicians quickly locate devices for repairs or updates

  • System Organization: Maintains clear records of device placement

  • Troubleshooting: Enables rapid identification of device locations during issues

Location Entry Process

Step 1: Select Location Type

Choose from the dropdown menu:

  • Column

  • Dock Door

  • Roof

  • Shelves

  • Utility (for water meters/pulse counters)

  • Other (for custom locations)

Step 2: Enter Location Number/Description

Use the format: [Specific Identifier]

Location Number/Description Examples by Type

Column Installations

  • Format: [Location][Number/ID]

  • Examples:

  • Loading Bay,C1 (Loading bay, Column C1)

  • Warehouse,Col-C5 (Warehouse, Column C5)

  • Main Floor,Support-F3 (Main floor, Support column F3)

  • P1,Column A.5, 10.1 (Main floor, Support column A.5, 10.1)

Dock Door Installations

  • Format: [Number/ID]

  • Examples:

  • DD-12 (Dock Door 12)

  • 8 (Dock Door 8)

  • Bay A,3 (Bay A, Door 3)

Roof Installations (Common for Weather Sensors)

  • Format: [Section/Area][Details]

  • Examples:

  • North,Corner (North section, corner)

  • Main,East Side (Main building, east side)

  • Warehouse,South Edge (Warehouse roof, south edge)

Shelves Installations

  • Format: [Section][Row][Level]

  • Examples:

  • A,Row-3,Top (Section A, Row 3, Top level)

  • Cold Storage,2,4 (Cold storage, Row 2, Level 4)

  • Main,Section-B,2 (Main area, Section B, Level 2)

Utility Installations (For Water Meters/Pulse Counters)

  • Format: [Equipment/Area][Specific Location]

  • Examples:

  • Water Main,Street Side (Water main, street side)

  • Sink,Kitchen-1 (Kitchen sink 1)

  • Pump Room,Main Pump (Pump room, main pump)

  • Boiler Room,Feed Line (Boiler room, feed line)

Other Locations (Custom Location Type)

  • Format: [Location Type]: [Specific Details]

  • Examples:

  • Wall: North,Height-8ft (North wall, 8 feet high)

  • Ceiling: Office,Grid-A3 (Office ceiling, Grid A3)

  • Floor: Warehouse,Zone-2 (Warehouse floor, Zone 2)

  • Pole: R1,6 (Row 1, Pole 6)

Common Scenarios

Weather Sensors

  • Location Type: Roof

  • Location Description: Main Building,Northwest Corner

  • Reason: Weather sensors need unobstructed access to environmental conditions

Gateway Devices

  • Location Type: Other (then specify "Pole" in description)

  • Location Description: Pole: Parking Lot,Row-2,Pole-R1,6

  • Reason: Gateways need good signal coverage and power access

Pulse Counters (Water Meters)

  • Location Type: Utility

  • Location Description: Water Main,Street Side

  • Reason: Must be close to water lines and equipment being monitored
